Today (Saturday) the Sudanese government announced the closure of part of its border with Ethiopia in the wake of the escalation of violence in the region, following the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abi Ahmed’s directive to launch military operations in response to what he described as an attack on federal forces.SUNA reported that the Gedaref state government decided to close its borders with the Amhara and Tigray regions from Thursday until further notice, calling on citizens on the border strip to be wary of the repercussions of tensions inside neighboring Ethiopia. The agency pointed out that the areas adjacent to the two regions are witnessing these days intense activity of agricultural harvest operations, and any security tensions in the region could seriously harm farmers and production. Ethiopian planes bombed Tigray (Friday) and Abe pledged to continue air strikes in the escalating conflict.
