The African Development Bank’s Annual Meetings are taking place at a critical moment for Africa and for the world. Countries across the continent—from South Africa, to Uganda and Rwanda—are forced to reintroduce restrictions, further denting a precarious recovery. This year, we project the global economy to grow by 6 percent, but only half that—3.2 percent[1]—in Africa. (2) Second, help Africa deal with a growing debt burden. Similarly, public debt in North Africa rose by about 12 percentage points to an average of 88 percent of GDP last year.
