2.14 crore in power billThe Tiruchirapalli City Corporation has achieved 24 per cent energy savings by replacing fluorescent bulbs with LED ones in street lights. The savings is likely to go up this year as the process of replacement of all fluorescent bulbs with LED bulbs was fully completed. As per the agreement, the company replaced all 26,391 fluorescent bulbs of street lights in 65 wards with LED bulbs in December 2015, saving on energy use. Before implementing the project in 2013-14, the corporation used 1,42,31,204 units of electricity for street lights alone. Besides installing energy saving equipment and replacing all fluorescent bulbs of the street lights with LED lamps, the company has entrusted with their operation and maintenance for 10 years.
