Lack of drug analysis facilities is 'a disgrace'

A judge has slammed as a 'disgrace', the Government's failure to provide Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) and the gardai with proper facilities to enable them to provide certificates of analysis speedily to allow alleged drug cases to be prosecuted. The suspected cannabis was seized in October 2019 and sent to Forensic Science Ireland, which is based at Garda Headquarters in Dublin's Phoenix Park, for analysis. However, Sgt McGarrity asked Judge Dempsey not to dismiss the case - 'as it is beyond our control'. However, Judge Dempsey said: 'I am striking the matter out.' 'It's a disgrace they won't provide appropriate facilities to gardai and Forensic Science Ireland in this day and age.
