Cumbria was praised for its varied walking trails, from gentle lakeside paths to challenging mountain hikes, all set within the Lake District National Park. Northumberland, which placed third, was highlighted for its dog-friendly beaches and national park, as well as welcoming eateries and historic sites like Bamburgh Castle and Cragside, which allow dogs in certain areas.
