Cherono was the fastest runner on Monday, besting Ethiopian rival Lelisa Desisa by two seconds in a dash down Boylston Street on Patriot’s Day at the 123rd Boston Marathon. “This is my third time running in the U.S. and I’ve won all three times, so I’m grateful,” Cherono said. Although Desisa came up short in his bid to win Boston for a third time, he was pleased with his performance. “After 40K (24.8 miles) I decided to sprint to win,” Desisa said. “When I was leading I was thinking, ‘Holy beep, I’m leading the beeping Boston Marathon,’ ” Fauble, 27, said.
