The Nelson-based ice pilot, husband to wife Viv, father of three and 'Grandrew' to four died on September 16, aged 72. MARION VAN DIJK/ STUFF Chief of Navy Rear Admiral John Martin, left, appointed Leachman to the position of Honorary Captain for the Royal New Zealand Navy in June this year. Acting chief of Navy James Gilmour spoke at the funeral. In a final show of respect, Naval personnel formed an honour guard for Leachman's hearse outside the Marsden House Funeral home.
