BEIRUT—Lebanese President Michel Aoun asked Saudi Arabia to explain why Prime Minister Saad Hariri hadn’t returned to Lebanon after resigning his post from Riyadh last week, according to a statement released Saturday from the president’s office, the latest salvo in an escalating crisis between the two countries. “We request the return of the prime minister to Lebanon,” according to the statement from Mr. Aoun, which recapped a meeting between Saudi Arabia’s chargé d’affaires and the Lebanese president the day before.
