THE next president of the beleaguered Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) should have an “accounting” or “legal” background, Health Secretary Francisco Duque 3rd said on Thursday. Duque, chairman of PhilHealth in his capacity as health secretary, said if the individual is “knowledgeable in accounting or law, then that would even be better”. Duque, who also served as PhilHealth President and CEO, made his statements during a Coordinated Operations to Defeat the Epidemic (CODE) meeting in Laguna on Wednesday. Meanwhile, PhilHealth Corporate Communications manager Rey Balena confirmed to The Manila Times that PhilHealth Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Arnel De Jesus has been designated as officer-in-charge.
