A Supreme Court lawyer has served a legal notice to the government seeking legal protection, rehabilitation, and financial assistance for the victims of the 1990 and 2024 mass uprisings. Advocate Ilias Ali Mandal sent the notice on Monday to the cabinet secretary, prime minister's principal secretary, law secretary and parliamentary secretariat secretary. The notice also demanded proper rehabilitation, financial assistance, and social security for the families of the dead and the injured. Advocate Ilias urged the authorities to conduct proper investigations to bring those responsible for the casualties to justice. The lawyer warned that if the authorities fail to take “prompt, visible and effective” steps on the matter, he would file a writ petition with the High Court Division of the Supreme Court and pursue further legal action.
