Liberia: CDC Suspends Its Bong Co. Chairman for ‘Violence & Disruption of Party’s Rally

MONROVIA – The National Executive Committee of the Congress for Democratic Change, with immediate effect, suspends the membership of CDC Bong County Chairman Victor Wisseh for ‘Violence and disruption’ of an official party program held in Gbarnga over the weekend. This decision arises out of an official complaint of 29 September 2020, accusing ‘ Mr. Wisseh of leading a gang of young people to attack…while having a political rally for Sen. Henry W. Yallah at the Chief Compound Public School, resulting into physical violence and wounds’. Mr. Wisseh is also suspended from the party’s Bong County Chapter Chairmanship pending the outcome of a Grievance and Ethics investigation. At the same time, the leadership of the Coalition for Democratic Change condemns recent allegations of violence in District-10, and wishes to clarify that neither the CDC nor (any of) its leaders was involved. Notwithstanding, the party calls on the Liberia National Police to prosecute those arrested in connection with said violence.
