(CNN) Embattled evangelical leader Jerry Falwell Jr. agreed to resign as Liberty University's president Monday but withdrew his resignation when media reports about the decision emerged, the university said in a statement Monday night . Falwell Jr. told Virginia Business Monday that reports that he was resigning were "completely false." Jerry Falwell Jr. and his wife Becki Falwell speak during a town hall meeting on the opioid crisis in March 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Neither Falwell Jr. nor Becki Falwell have commented on Granda's description of the affair. Falwell Jr. was one of the first evangelical leaders to endorse Trump when he ran for president.
