CAIRO, 18 MAR – The Libyan premier designated by the Parliament, Fathi Bashagha, said that elections cannot be held when there are “divisions and conflicts” as is currently the case in Libya. The Libya Observer website reports it today on Twitter, citing a written statement by Bashagha released on Facebook by an account of his supporters. “We emphasize that these elections cannot take place in the light of divisions and conflicts,” said the premier ‘parallel’ to the one based in Tripoli, Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, who would like to have an election in June. “It should be emphasized that any initiative to hold legislative elections only in some Libyan regions without holding them in others can lead to creating divisions and sowing discord among Libyans”, continued Bashagha in the statement made about a session of the Security Council of the UN just held on Libya.
