Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) has launched the first phase of the Farigh-Brega gas pipeline, marking a key step in strengthening domestic gas supply. The development underscores Libya’s broader push to stabilize energy supply, scale gas output and reinforce its position as a major North African producer. With output targets rising and renewed investor interest, the pipeline supports ambitions to support domestic supply while gradually expanding export capacity toward Europe. Strategically, the pipeline strengthens gas supply to power generation, which accounts for roughly 70% of Libya’s electricity. Recent offshore discoveries and infrastructure such as the Greenstream pipeline support export ambitions, despite ongoing security and investment challenges.
