LOS ANGELES — A cluster of fires blazing on steep and arid terrain in Northern California has spread across more than 1,100 acres, forcing evacuations in rural areas of Trinity and Humboldt counties. The US Forest Service, which manages the response, said lightning strikes from a thunderstorm Friday set off a dozen fires in the Six Rivers National Forest. Firefighters reduced those burns to eight from the initial attacks, and officials named the remaining fires the Six Rivers Lightning Complex. The National Weather Service in Eureka said the weather could help firefighters fight the fires in the coming days. The Forest Service expects additional evacuations from the Six Rivers Lightning Complex in the next 24 hours.
