Dementia may be associated with hearing loss, but hearing aids lower the risk. To determine whether someone developed dementia, researchers examined their risk for dementia, self-reported use of hearing aids and medical records. The study did find, however, that hearing aids reduced the risk to levels similar to those without hearing loss.
