A live carpet python, of the same species as this specimen, was found alive at a New Zealand airport. A live carpet python found at Queenstown Airport was one of at least six snakes seized at New Zealand borders since the start of last year. Also known as a golden tree snake, the mildly-venomous species was popular with some overseas collectors for its gliding abilities and striking colours. Other seized reptiles included a dead common wall lizard, a live moorish gecko, a dead ragged snake-eyed skink, and a live Leschenault's leaf-toed gecko. The Ministry for Primary Industries said none of the seized reptiles were deliberately smuggled in, so nobody was fined for importing the scaly hitchhikers.
