Twelve of Europe’s biggest clubs announced on Sunday that they intended to form a new breakaway competition, with none of the founding members able to be relegated and just five ‘open’ slots available for new teams. The plans were met with outrage and resistance from the football world as well as fans and politicians, and not even 48 hours later the Super League appears to be on the verge of collapse.
