Local umpires may get big chance in Test arena

Bangladesh are set return to international cricket since the Covid-19 pandemic with a two-match Test and a three-ODI series scheduled to start in January. Opportunity for the host nation umpires came into action as the International Cricket Council had no option but to change their protocol of having “neutral umpires” for Tests. The regulation of having neutral umpires in red-ball cricket was introduced 26 years ago to eliminate allegations of biased umpiring decisions in favor of the home team. I think the chance for Bangladeshi umpires is finally coming (in Test format),” said former Bangladesh cricketer turned umpire Enamul after holding an umpires’ training course. Bangladesh in its 20 years of Test cricket has seen only four umpires officiate in the longest format.
