They all pulled in their top-tier opening weekend debuts as part of a four or five-day weekend. 7 on the list, 300, to find a massive R-rated debut that did its thing on a conventional Fri-Sun/non-holiday weekend. That gives it the third-biggest R-rated opening day ever, behind Deadpool ($47m on Friday) and The Matrix Reloaded ($42m on a Thursday, including $5m in Wednesday previews back in 2003). It's just behind the $34.4 million opening day for X-Men Origins: Wolverine back in 2009 but it's way ahead of the $20.6m opening day of The Wolverine. If the film plays like 300 or the first two Wolverine spin-offs (a pretty standard 2.5-2.65x multiplier), then we're looking at an $82-$87 million Fri-Sun opening weekend.
