The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) terminated two police officers in 2018 after it was discovered that they ignored a backup request to play the popular mobile game Pokémon Go. Louis Lozano and Eric Mitchell were fired for breaking department policy and lying about their involvement in the incident. As their police captain requested backup, Lozano can be heard saying, “I don’t want to be his help.” It was later revealed that the officers were playing Pokémon Go instead of responding to the call for assistance. During the investigation, Lozano and Mitchell admitted to not responding to the radio call but denied playing Pokémon Go at the time.
