She is widely known as one of the purest and most accomplished contemporary lyric poets and is often called an autobiographical poet. Louise Glück was born in 1943 in New York. She made her debut in 1968 with the collection, Firstborn, and was soon acclaimed as one of the most prominent poets in American contemporary literature. Her most recent books of poetry include the National Book Award winning Faithful and Virtuous Night (2014), and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize winning Poems 1962-2012 (2012).
