Love Island’s Dr Alex on life in the Majorca villa, romance, rejection – and returning to work in a busy casualty department

On a cold, grey November afternoon, Lewisham Hospital has very little in common with Love Island. There are no palm trees in this patch of southeast London, no beautiful people dressed in swimwear looking for love, or fame, or Instagram followers. Unless, that is, you walk through a packed A&E, down a corridor to a door marked Resus Only. There, you will find Dr George, dressed in green scrubs and the man known to millions of Love Island fans by his first name, Dr Alex. It’s his first day back at work since Love Island, the standout TV hit of the summer, and if he isn’t quite hiding in the resuscitation area, it’s not far from it.
