Lt Gen Afzal assumes charge as chairman NDMA
Incoming chairman replaces Lt Gen Omar Mahmood HayatLieutenant General Muhammad Afzal on Tuesday assumed charge of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) as chairman. The federal cabinet approved the appointment upon recommendations from the defence minister. An Engineering Corps officer in the Pakistan Army, Lt Gen Afzal replaces Lt Gen Omar Mahmood Hayat, who retired from service last month. The incoming chairman has also served as engineer-in-chief at the General Headquarters (GHQ) and as the chief technical advisor to the army chief. Lt Gen Afzal has also served as director-general Frontier Works Organisation (FWO).
