Lucy Kear Elected New Leader of Liberians in Washington DC

Washington DC, USA – Hundreds of Liberians in Washington DC area made their way to the polls last Saturday, ushering in a new leadership within the all-important Liberian Community Association (LCA) of the Washington DC metro area. The new corps of officers which is headed by Mrs. Lucy Wilson Kear, President; and Mr. Eric Harris, Vice President, was elected by a broad mandate of Liberians gathering in Adelphi, Maryland on the outskirts of Washington DC. Others elected were Eric Harris, Vice President, Sietta Watson, Secretary General; David Kemah, Financial Secretary; Tarnue Sawo, Treasurer; and Josephus Hinneh, Chaplain. For her part, President Lucy Wilson Kear expressed gratitude to her fellow Liberians for giving her a strong mandate. The resolution came in the aftermath of a prolonged period of stagnation which left the Washington metropolitan area Liberian community without a bona fide leadership structure for several years.
