[+] Tony Clark are in the midst of negotiating what could be the most radical change to the labor agreement between the players and owners since 1997. In mid-August, the first signs of an economic proposal by the league were leaked out but portrayed as more of a moon shot. The league believes that the salary arbitration system creates acrimony between the players and clubs given that clubs offer a salary figure for the following season lower than the player seeks. At its core, the proposed system to replace salary arbitration places further restrictions on a player’s ability to negotiate for their salary. The proposals have centered on having all players with two years of service time enter salary arbitration and addressing fundamental issues that incentivize clubs to be competitive.
