The $500 million grievance figure would be less than 102 games – the difference between a full regular season and the 60-game season played in 2020 under the pandemic. Labor negotiators for both MLB and the MLBPA have slowly started to have bargaining sessions for the next labor agreement. Some have wondered whether a new labor agreement will be in place by December 1 due to the tension. The $500 million grievance acts as yet another bargaining chip in the high stakes game that Major League Baseball and the union for the players are playing.
