It is understood the MP for Kingston upon Hull East was informed by the chief whip Jonathan Reynolds today that he had the whip suspended following his recent conduct. Turner wrote on X: “I am being told that I have had the whip suspended but I have not had any notification from the whips about this. I’ve been a loyal Labour MP for 16 years and have only broken the whip on jury trials. The government argues that this is needed to clear the huge backlog of cases within the system, but critics like Turner say jury trials are a fundamental right.
