The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will ask its board to approve a $1.2 million contract next week for a consultant to oversee reconstruction work on the L train tunnel under the East River, according to an authority spokesman. The MTA revised its plan to fix the tunnel earlier this year after New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo intervened. The new proposal will avoid a full shutdown of L train service between Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn and Eighth Avenue in Manhattan for 15 months.
