The legendary South African stars Mafikizolo joined revelers in celebration of the diverse cultural heritage at the One Nation festival last weekend. The traditional-based festival welcomed revelers with a traditional music and dance ensemble that gave revelers a sense of cultural appreciation as they walked into the festival grounds. The diverse cultural backgrounds within Uganda were represented by the Baraka dance troop, which kicked off the festival with an appreciation of Northern Ugandan cultural dance and music. Exploring western culture, the Ihunde dance troop put on an energetic runyege performance to represent the Banyoro, not forgetting the Kinyarwanada and Maganda mashup that got everyone dancing along. The inaugural edition of the One Nation Festival, besides the modest turnout, was altogether a cocktail of great music, dance, culture, and ice-cold Pilsner Lager served in beautifully decorated gourds.
