Tanzanian President John Magufuli's government, through the Ministry of Communication, has issued new measures meant to prevent local media from sharing or using unapproved information. Among the changes introduced is barring local licensed media operations from sharing local information or airing foreign information without the approval of the concerned ministry. Also, licensed media outlets are not allowed to meet and share information with a foreign journalist without the company of any government official or any official from the ministry. In its new regulations, the local media houses are only allowed to air adult content from midnight to 5am. The repercussions for media houses found contradicting the new regulations include having to publish an apology with an explanation.
