The fire was off State Highway 1, near Waitahanui. State Highway 1 south of Taupō has reopened. A one hectare bush fire had closed the highway north of Waitahanui, about 15km south of TaupōEight fire trucks were battling the blaze, however Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) say they now have it under control. Helicopter operations had stopped and firefighters were damping down hot spots, they said in a statement. Fire trucks and support vehicles are still in attendance.
