Major incident declared as Storm Chandra batters UK with warnings of overnight flooding


A major incident has been declared in Somerset as Storm Chandra batters much of the country, flooding homes and leaving vehicles stranded in floodwater. Storm Chandra brought heavy rain and strong winds to large parts of the country, with gusts of up to 80mph recorded in Northern Ireland. As of Tuesday evening, 95 flood warnings - for expected flooding - and 257 flood alerts - for possible flooding - were in force across England. Three flood warnings and 17 flood alerts were in place across Wales, while there were eight flood warnings and eight flood alerts across Scotland. Storm Chandra is the latest storm to be named by the western Europe storm naming group list shared between the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands.
