PETALING JAYA: Malaysia has co-sponsored and voted in favour of the United Nations resolution on the Protection of the Palestinian Civilian Population. The resolution was adopted by a vote of 120 in favour, eight against, with 45 abstentions. "Malaysia co-sponsored and voted in favour of the resolution in line with our long-standing and unwavering support for the Palestinian cause," said the Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement Thursday (June 14). In December 2017, 128 countries defied US President Donald Trump and voted in favour of a UN General Assembly resolution calling for the United States to drop its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Malaysia had also co-sponsored and voted in favour of the resolution on the Status of Jerusalem at that Emergency Special Session.
