Malaysian student in South Korea in need of funds to pay medical bills

KOTA KINABALU: The family of a Malaysian university student is desperately seeking to raise funds to pay for his emergency surgery in South Korea. Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) student Mohd Arif Gamar, 21, who hails from Lahad Datu, suffered a ruptured appendix on Aug 8 while attending the 5th International Youth Forum on Historical Reconciliation in Seoul. His cousin Lis Teblani, 31, said Mohd Ariff is out of danger but needs money to pay the RM35,000 medical bill. Lis, who works in Kuala Lumpur, said his family and friends aren't able to raise the whole sum. Mohd Ariff was among five students sponsored to represent Malaysia in the five-day forum organised by the Korean National Commission for Unesco.
