De La Cruz’s performances have alerted a number of clubs in Europe, with TNT Sports claiming United are one of five teams ready to make an offer. Although River and manager Marcelo Gallardo are loathe to lose such an important player, they are now resigned to his departure with so many clubs interested in his services. In addition to United, Serie A side Fiorentina are also looking at De La Cruz and already have a sizeable South American contingent including Uruguay defender Martin Caceres. But United have Cavani in their ranks, and TNT Sports have suggested that the 34-year-old – who recently signed a contract extension at Old Trafford – may have recommended his teammate to the club.
