(File photograph)A 22-year-old man has been charged with unlawfully carrying a firearm in a central Timaru bar early on Sunday morning. Timaru Sergeant Grant Lord said police were called to The Sail and Anchor bar about 12.45am after staff became aware someone was carrying a firearm. Bar staff secured the firearm and detained a Timaru man until police arrived at the scene, Lord said. Police have recovered the firearm thanks to the prompt work by them.”The man is due to appear in the District Court at Timaru on Tuesday. The Timaru man’s arrest followed an earlier incident on Stafford St when a firearm was discharged about 12.10am, Lord said.
