A young man has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of a teenager on Salt Spring Island in Sept. 2017, according to the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit. The man, who cannot be identified because he was a youth at the time of the offence, has been charged with one count of manslaughter and appeared in court on Wednesday. In the early hours of Sept 24, 2017, police responded to a residence on Salt Spring Island for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found six youths present, and a 17-year-old, Alistair Hayne, who was suffering from what appeared to a gunshot wound. At the time, police said the shooting appeared to be accidental.
