Man fatally shot by Edmonton police was armed with two knives, police watchdog says

EDMONTON—A 26-year-old man who died after being shot by Edmonton police on Wednesday night was armed with two knives, according to new details released by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), the province’s police watchdog, which has taken over the investigation. Devlin Kyle Neyando died at the scene when officers opened fire outside a townhouse on the city’s east side during a confrontation. As police approached the home, Neyando emerged from the front door with two knives in hand, according to ASIRT. Neyando was then shot several times after a confrontation with two Edmonton Police Service members that resulted in his death. Non-lethal shots were also fired by police during the confrontation, ASIRT said.
