Chinese authorities are demanding severe punishment for an American man who allegedly stole the thumb of a terra-cotta warrior while it was on display at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Then, in December, a man in an ugly sweater took his thumb. News of Rohana’s alleged assault on the 210 B.C.-era statue has angered China, which reveres the thousands of terra-cotta warrior statues as treasured cultural artifacts. No one was supposed to see them at the Franklin Institute on the night of the science after-hours event.
