Regarding “Booming Farms, Poisoned Wells” (page one, Jan. 19): Today’s agricultural landscape is locked in to the confined livestock feeding operations that are contaminating rural wells. The policy, finance and socioeconomic rules that favor confinement production systems, even in the face of low profitability for farmers and unacceptable health risks for their rural neighbors, are reinforced by those who profit from the current system—corporations supplying fertilizer, seed and pesticides to farmers.
