Manchester City beat rivals Man United, Liverpool and Brighton in race to sign Hearts' teenage midfielder

Manchester City have agreed a £600,000 compensation deal with Hearts for teenage midfielder Keir McMeekin. The deal could rise to £2million for the 16-year-old who has still to make his full debut for the Scottish Premiership title contenders. McMeekin was wanted by a string of top English clubs as he weighed up whether to sign his first professional contract at Tynecastle. Manchester United, Brighton and Liverpool all battled for the player's signature before he settled on City after they gave him and his family a tour of their training facilities. Though capped by Scotland at youth level, McMeekin is also on the radar of England and Northern Ireland as he continues to impress and qualifies for other countries owing to his grandparents.
