The two Manchester clubs qualified for Europe next term after City won the Premier League to ensure a spot in the Champions League and United won the FA Cup to book a Europa League spot. However, La Liga side Girona and Ligue 1 side Nice are part of City and United’s mult-club ownership model. Uefa rules stipulate that clubs under the same ownership cannot compete in the same competition. City Football Group owns a host of clubs around the world, including Girona and New York City FC.
