MANILA Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso ordered the purchase of P13 million worth of an experimental drug for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in a bid to hasten the recovery of infected patients. Domagoso said the order for Remdesivir was for 2,000 vials at P6,500 each, which is lower than its original price of P20,000. “What we bought is enough for the existing active cases in our hospitals,” he said in a CNN Philippines interview. The 2,000 vials will be distributed in the city’s six district hospitals where there are about 200 active cases patients in their care. “Just in case, we would buy more of the drug if that’s what it takes to increase the probability of the patient’s recovery,” he added.
