However, United were taken aback by Chelsea’s demand of a £7m loan fee as they had initially offered around £2m for the Spaniard. With time running out in the window, Chelsea are willing to compromise and Marca say an agreement of around £3m is close to being struck. United’s determination to sign Cucurella stems from an injury sustained by Luke Shaw, which is set to keep the defender out for up to two months.
