Two more statements detailed the toll Markus Hicks had on families and their loved ones in provincial court on Friday. As seen in November during the first part of victim impact statements, Hicks was once again brought into St. John’s from the Bishop’s Falls Correctional Centre to hear them in person. The mother of the two victims chose to deliver her statement in person, directly looking at Hicks the entire time. She opened by saying that this was not the first time she had to write a victim impact statement, having endured sexual abuse herself when she was younger. He added that he was a victim of sexual assault himself when he was younger.
