Markus Jooste's son, Michael Jooste, has gone to court in a bid to have over a billion rand in assets, housed in the Jooste family trust, unfrozen. The assets, which include fine art worth R98 million, loans worth R131 million and shares and other assets worth R1.2 billion, fall under the Joostes' Silveroak Trust. The art, loans and shares were attached by the SA Reserve Bank when it raided a number of properties linked to the former Steinhoff CEO in October last year. The bank also attached the historic Lanzerac wine estate outside Stellenbosch, a number of cars, personal effects, jewellery and firearms.
