Sales of the Japanese powdered green tea beverage have doubled this year. The UK matcha tea market was worth £46million last year, and is expected to be worth £74million by 2030, according to Grand View Horizon research. Because the whole leaf is used, matcha is more nutrient-dense than other “healthy” green teas. Searches for “why is matcha good for you”, “where can I buy matcha powder” and “what does a matcha latte taste like” are up in all four nations of the UK. Google Trends shows peak search interest for matcha this summer (June 1-7, 2025) was almost double that of latte and five times that of cappuccino.
