Footage shows Hancock slapping a colleague on the back in the House of Commons, against the strict rules of which he himself has been at pains to remind people. Hancock told the BBC he was "so sorry for a human mistake on my part". The Health Secretary himself contracted coronavirus in March shortly after the Prime Minister came down with the deadly bug. After the apparent slip-up, Hancock spoke to the Commons and addressed the matter of reducing social distancing from two metres to one metre. However, a study published in medical journal The Lancet in early June suggested cutting social distancing to within 1m could increase the likelihood of transmission by more than four.
