The stated intention of EV subsidies and similar policies is to benefit the environment. Yet as studies have shown, the environmental benefits of EV subsidies are questionable (to say the least) and come at a high cost to the taxpayer. This suggests EV subsidies currently fail a cost-benefit test by a significant margin. Moreover, as EV adoption increases worldwide, the environmental benefits will likely decline because the minerals used to produce EVs are not abundant. But it should not undo the benefits of this reversal by imposing other damaging policies.
